| The standard was formulated for the purpose of implementing Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, Law of the People's Republic of China on Prevention and Control of Water Pollution, Marine Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, Air pollution Prevention and Control Law and Law of the PRC on the Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, enhancing control and management of wastewater discharged by medial institutes, waste gas and sludge discharge from the treatment plants, preventing and controlling the outbreak and prevalence of infectious diseases and safeguarding human health and a good environment. The standard provides control projects for waste water from medical institutes, waste gas and sludge pollution from treatment plants and their discharge limit, treatment techniques, disinfection requirements, sampling and monitoring as well as enforcement and supervision of the standard. The standard shall replace related provisions for pollution discharge of medical institutes set out in General Standard for Waste Water Discharge GB8978-1996 and Waste Water Discharge Requirement for Medical Institutes GB18466-2001 upon promulgation. The standard shall prevail for medical facilities that are newly built, expanded and rebuilt upon its entry into force. Present medical facilities shall meet the standard by Dec. 31, 2007. |
