The main objectives of this convention are the protection of endangered species prominent in international trade through appropriate trade control measures and monitoring the status of such species.

This convention has a high profile in China, as well as internationally.

China submitted its instrument of accession to the depositary government on Jan 8, 1981 and the convention came into force on April 8, 1981 in China.
