According to the bylaw of China Environmental Protection Foundation, China Environmental Protection Foundation established "China Environment Prize" in 2000 for honoring and encouraging the individuals and organizations that have made great contributions to and gained the prominent achievements in the cause of China environmental protection. The Organizing Committee of "China Environment Prize" is constituted by such 12 departments and units as the Environment & Resources Protection Committee of NPC, Population, Resources & Environment Committee of CPPCC, Propaganda Department of CCP, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Civil Affairs, State Environmental Protection Administration, State Administration of Radio, Film & Television, All-China Federation of Trade Unions, Central Committee of CYL, All-China Federation of Women, and China Environmental Protection Foundation. The Evaluation Office of China Environment Prize is set at China Environmental Protection Foundation.

The members of Evaluation Committee of China Environment Prize are recommended by the members of Organizing Committee of "China Environment Prize", reviewed and approved by the Organizing Committee, and appointed by Mr. Qu Geping, former Director of Environment & Resources Protection Committee of NPC, Director of China Environmental Protection Foundation, and Chairman of Organizing Committee of China Environment Prize.

According to the regulation of "Rewarding Method for China Environment Prize", the candidates for China Environment Prize shall not be circumscribed by nationality, region, race or religious belief, etc. Any individual or organization can participate in the appraisal through combination of recommendation of the society and the self-recommendation of the individual or organization. The China Environment Prize will be appraised every year.

For encouragement, the winners of "China Environment Prize" shall each be granted with financial reward of RMB 500,000 Yuan; the winners of nomination prize, shall each be granted with the financial reward of RMB 50,000 Yuan.
