MEP Released Environmental Radiation Monitoring Results on Apirl 18

An official in charge from MEP (National Nuclear Safety Administration) said, on April 18, the environmental protection department had detected trace amount of artificial radioactive nuclide Iodine-131 released from Japan Fukushima Nuclear Accident in aerosol samples of monitoring sites at 19 provinces in China including Jilin Province and etc.. In addition, the trace amount of artificial radioactive nuclide Cesium-137 and Cesium-134 had also been detected in aerosol samples of monitoring sites at 5 provinces including Shanghai and etc.. The monitoring results of artificial radioactive nuclide in the Air across China are shown in the attached table.

Because the associated radiation dose of the detected artificial radioactive nuclide is extremely weak and is below one hundred-thousandth of the average annual exposure level to natural radioactive sources such as rocks, soil, food and the sun, still within the fluctuations of local baseline radiation level; therefore, there is no need for any protective measures.

The following figure shows the 16:00 of April 18 real-time continuous monitoring value of air absorption dose in radiation environment automatic monitoring stations in provincial capital cities and some prefecture-level cities across the country released by MEP. The green curve in monitoring data summary figure represents monitoring value, blue column represents natural baseline level; it can be seen that green curse falls into the blue column range. Monitoring results show that environment radiation level in our country at present is still within baseline range and Japan nuclear power accident does not impose any impacts on the environment and public health of China.
