Calendar in May 2015
On May 5, Minister Chen Jining met in Beijing with Helen Clark, UN Deputy Secretary General and UNDP Administrator. The two sides exchanged views in the environment field. 
On the same day, the departments under MEP organized a speech contest in Beijing on enforcement of the new environment protection law in commemoration of the May 4 International Youth Day. Vice Minister Pan Yue granted the awards to the winners and delivered a speech. 
On the same day, MEP adopted four standards as national environmental protection standards, i.e., "Soil and Sediment-Determination of Volatile Organic Compounds-Headspace Gas Chromatography", "Soil and Sediment-Determination of Volatile Aromatic Hydrocarbons-Headspace Gas Chromatography", "Soil and Sediment-Determination of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)-Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry", and "Water Quality-Determination of Phenols Compounds-Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry", which shall go to effect as of July 1, 2015. 
On May 7, Vice Minister Li Ganjie met in Beijing with a delegation headed by Fukushiro Nukaga, President of Heisei Research Council of Liberal Democratic Party and a member of the House of Representatives of Japan. The two sides exchanged views on environmental issues of common concern. 
From May 7 to 8, the Leading Party Group of MEP organized a general debate on the enforcement of the newly amended environment protection law and the development of the 13th Five-Year Plan for environmental protection. Minister Chen Jining joined the debate and delivered a speech. Vice Minister Pan Yue anchored the debate, the participants of which also included Vice Ministers Wu Xiaoqing and Li Ganjie, Chief of the Discipline Inspection Group Zhou Ying, a member of the Leading Party Group and Director General of the Department of Human Resources Management and Institutional Affairs He Jie, Chief Engineer Wan Bentai, and Chief Engineer for Nuclear Safety Liu Hua, as well as leading officials of MEP departments, affiliated institutions and regional offices.
On May 12, the eighth meeting of the China-Pakistan Steering Committee on Nuclear Safety Cooperation was held in Rongcheng Municipality, Shandong Province in East China. MEP Vice Minister and NNSA Administrator Li Ganjie and President of Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) Anwar Habib spoke at the event. The two sides signed the minutes of the eighth meeting of the China-Pakistan Steering Committee on Nuclear Safety Cooperation. 
On May 13, the fourth high-level symposium among nuclear power corporations on emergency rescue in nuclear accidents was held in Yantai Municipality, Shandong Province. MEP Vice Minister and NNSA Administrator Li Ganjie attended the symposium. 
On May 14, MEP held a symposium in Beijing to study and implement the guidelines of the important speech of General Secretary Xi Jinping on promoting ecological progress and protecting the environment as well as the "Opinions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on Accelerating the Promotion of Ecological Progress". Minister Chen Jining spoke at the symposium which was chaired by Vice Minister Li Ganjie. The leading officials from 10 provincial and municipal governments and the leading officials of the provincial/regional/municipal environmental protection departments which strived to build into eco-provinces attended the event. 
On the same day, the principal officials of the leading team of the Party committee and government of Xicheng District visited and had a talk with MEP. Secretary of the Leading Party Group and Minister Chen Jining met with the delegation of Xicheng District Party and government officials. Vice Minister Pan Yue spoke at the symposium, which was chaired by He Jie, a member of the Leading Party Group and Director General of the Department of Human Resources Management and Institutional Affairs. 
On the same day, the workshop on the legal support to eco-environment protection was held in Beijing. Yan Juanqi, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the NPC, and Wang Lequan, a former member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and President of China Law Society spoke at the workshop. MEP Vice Minister Pan Yue spoke at the event on behalf of MEP, as entrusted by Minister Chen Jining. 
Between May 18 and 19, the 2015 Roundtable Meeting of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) was held in Shanghai. MEP Vice Minister and Secretary General of CCICED Li Ganjie, and Feng Jun, Executive Vice President of China Executive Leadership Academy, Pudong, spoke at the meeting. 
Between May 19 and 20, the first Forum of Ministers & Environment Authorities of Asia Pacific was held in Bangkok, Thailand. Chief Engineer Wan Bentai headed a delegation to the forum and had a meeting with Oyun Sanjaasuren, President of the UN Environment Assembly. 
On May 21, Minister Chen Jining chaired the ministerial executive meeting, which considered and adopted in principle the Ministry’s implementation plan of the "Opinions on the Division of the Functions of Main Departments in the Government Work Report", and heard report on the budget enforcement from January through April 2015, the "Survey and Evaluation Report on the Decade Change of National Eco-environment (2000-2010)", and the progress in the evaluation of the reduced total load of main pollutants in 2014. Vice Ministers Pan Yue, Wu Xiaoqing, Li Ganjie, and Zhai Qing, Chief of the Discipline Inspection Group Zhou Ying, and a member of the Leading Party Group and Director General of Department of Human Resources Management and Institutional Affairs He Jie attended the meeting. 
On the same day, MEP announced the "Guidelines on the Review of the Performances in Dismantling and Processing of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment" (2015), which shall go to effect as of July 1, 2015. The "Guidelines on the Review of the Subsidies to Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Disposers" (Bulletin No.83, 2010, MEP) shall be abolished in the meantime. 
On the same day, MEP and Chinese Academy of Sciences jointly released the "Red List of China’s Biodiversity-Vertebrates". 
On May 22, MEP held a convention in Beijing commemorating the International Biodiversity Day. Minister Chen Jining spoke at the convention, so did Mr. Dias, CBD Executive Secretary, and Hu Deping, President of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation. Vice Minister Li Ganjie chaired the event. 
On May 25, MEP organized a mobilization meeting for the thematic education campaign on "three stricts and three honests". Secretary of the Leading Party Group and Minister Chen Jining spoke at the meeting which was chaired by Pan Yue, Vice Minister and Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Departments under MEP. Participants also included Vice Minister Li Ganjie, Chief of the Discipline Inspection Group Zhou Ying, a member of the Leading Party Group and Director General of Department of Human Resources Management and Institutional Affairs He Jie, Chief Engineer Wan Bentai, and Chief Engineer for Nuclear Safety Liu Hua. 
On May 28, MEP held a symposium in Beijing on the prevention and control of water pollution. Minister Chen Jining spoke at the symposium, which was chaired by Vice Minister Zhai Qing. Leading officials of the EPDs (EPBs) of all provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government, the EPB of the PLA, the EPB of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, Liaohe and Linghe River Nature Reserve Administrations, as well as the internal departments, regional offices and affiliated institutions of MEP attended the event.
