On Aug. 3, MEP announced organizations approved in 2009 to process and utilize at designated sites imported waste hardware, electric appliances, electric wires and cables and electric machines.
On the same day, MEP printed and released Notice on Applying for Changes of Station Incumbency Certification for Environmental Impact Assessment of Construction Projects, in order to strengthen management of technical personnel engaged in EIA, have updated information on EIA employment and staffing of related organizations and maintain sound market order.
On the same day, MEP printed and issued Circular on Follow-up Environmental Supervision of Listed Companies in order to urge listed companies to live up to their environmental commitment and improve environmental behaviors on a continued basis.
On the same day, MEP printed and issued Notice on Supervising Sewage Treatment Plants in Some Cities to Make Rectification within a Set Time Limit.
On Aug. 4, MEP Vice Minister Zhang Lijun met a delegation headed by Executive Vice President of Nokia, former Premier of Finland Esko Aho in Beijing. They exchanged views on how to promote environmental protection in mobile communications industry.
On the same day MEP issued a Notice on Inspection of the Implementation of Three-Year Action Plan for Management of Environmental Monitoring.
On the same day MEP called for comments on national environmental standard for pollution discharge from vanadium industry (draft for comment).
On the same day MEP called for comments on four national environmental standards including draft of clean production standard daily chemical industry (cosmetics).
On Aug. 5, MEP called for comments on national environmental standard for technical specifications on environmental investigation of sites (draft for comment).
From Aug. 3 to Aug. 7, MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian went to Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region for investigation.
On Aug. 10, MEP approved four clean production standards as national environmental standards which will be put into effect as of Oct. 1, 2009. These clean production standards include standard for alumina industry, soda ash industry, chlor-alkali industry (caustic soda) and chlor-alkali industry (polyvinyl chloride).
On Aug. 12, Premier Wen Jiabao hosted an executive meeting of the State Council, listening to and reviewing report of the NDRC on combating climate change and making arrangement on related work. The meeting reviewed and adopted Regulations on Environmental Impact Assessment for Plans (Draft) in principle.
On the same day, MEP Vice Minister Li Ganjie met a delegation of Laos in Beijing led by Ms. Khempheng Pholsena, Minister to the Prime Minister's Office, head of the Water Resource and Environment Authority. They exchanged views on furthering bilateral cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
On the same day MEP called for comments on draft of national environmental standard Technical Requirement for Environmental Labeling Products Color Television Broadcasting Receivers.
On the same day MEP called for comments on draft of two national environmental standards including Technical Requirement for Environmental Labeling Products-Stationery and Technical Requirement for Environmental Labeling Products - Box and Bag.
On the same day MEP called for comments on Draft of 11 national environmental standards including Water Quality- Determination of Free Chlorine and Total Chlorine –Titrimetric method using N,N-diethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine. 
On the same day MEP called for comments on Draft of national environmental standard Technical Requirement for Environmental Labeling Products- Light Duty Vehicles.
On Aug. 17, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council endorsed the State Council Order No. 559, issuing Regulations on EIA for Plans, which will be put into effect as of Oct. 1, 2009.
On the same day, MEP Vice Minister Li Ganjie met a delegation in Beijing headed by Mr. Ibrahim Thiaw, Director of Division of Environmental Policy Implementation, UNEP. They exchanged views on issues concerning strengthening protection of biodiversity and addressing climate change.
On Aug. 19, MEP issued a notice on standard form for reporting investigations and handling of tip-off cases through environmental hotline 010-12369 (provisional).
On the same day MEP issued a letter calling for comments on the draft of indicator system and grading rules for performance assessment of 2009 government website operation of provincial environmental protection bureaus.
On Aug. 20, MEP announced the third batch of certified organizations approved in 2009 for operation of environmental pollution control facilities and organizations with information changes.
On Aug. 22, the Committee of Population, Resources and Environment, Peking University, Guiyang Municipal Party Committee and Guiyang Municipal People’s Government jointly held Guiyang Meeting on Ecological Civilization. MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian was invited to make a keynote speech on Following the Guidance of Ecological Civilization and Exploring a New Path to Environmental Protection with Chinese Characteristics. 
On Aug. 24, Dioxin 2009 was held in Beijing. MEP Vice Minister Zhang Lijun attended the opening ceremony and made remarks. 
On Aug. 25, the 2nd plenary session of the 10th meeting of the standing committee of the 11th National People's Congress was held. The meeting heard explanations made by Wang Guangtao, Chair of the Committee of Population, Resources and Environment, on Resolutions of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Active Adaptation to Climate Change (Draft).
On Aug. 26, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of the State Council, Li Keqiang presided over a leading group meeting on national investigation of pollution sources in Beijing. He stressed that we should further implement Scientific Outlook on Development by taking the opportunity of investigation of pollution sources and pay more attention to environmental protection in order to provide practical solutions to protruding pollution problems, foster social and economic sustainable development and continue to improve people's living standard and quality. Member organizations of the leading group and staff from related departments attended the meeting. MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian made a report at the meeting on the work of pollution source investigation.
On the same day MEP Vice Minister Zhou Jian met a delegation headed by Mr. Jairam Ramesh, Indian Minister of State for Environment and Forests in Beijing. They exchanged views on intensifying environmental cooperation and issues of common concern.
On Aug. 27, MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian hosted a ministerial executive meeting, which discussed and adopted in principle Plan for Comprehensive Remediation of Heavy Metal Pollution and National Environmental Protection Plan for Municipal Drinking Water Sources (2008-2020). The meeting also deliberated and approved environmental inspection opinions on EIA of some construction projects and companies applying for listing or refinancing. Participants of the meeting included Vice Minister Zhang Lijun, Zhou Jian, Li Ganjie, leader of the Discipline Inspection Group Fu Wenjuan, Member of the leading Party members' group, also Director General of the General Office Hu Baolin, Chief Engineer Wan Bentai and Chief Engineer on Nuclear Safety Lu Xinyuan. Principals of related departments observed the meeting.
