From June 2 to 4, MEP Vice Minister Zhang Lijun went to the earthquake-stricken areas in Shaanxi Province to inspect the situation there, instruct the disaster relief efforts, and condole with the cadres and staff in the environmental protection system.
On June 3, MEP Vice Minister Pan Yue met in Beijing with Lester R. Brown, the world renowned environmentalist and president of U.S. Earth Policy Institute (EPI). Both sides exchanged views on environmental protection and economic development pattern, energy and grain security, and climate change.
On the same day, in order to guide the transitional settlement sites in earthquake-stricken areas to safely dispose domestic wastewater and garbage, the Ministry of Environmental Protection released the Technical Guidelines on the Treatment of Domestic Wastewater in Transitional Settlement Sites of the Earthquake-Stricken Area (temporary) and Technical Guidelines on the Treatment of Domestic Garbage in Transitional Settlement Sites of the Earthquake-Stricken Area (temporary).
On June 4, MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian met in Beijing with Australian environmental expert Robert Vincin. Both sides exchanged views on purification of water body, soil remedy and low-carbon economy.
On the same day, MEP made public the status of the environment in China in 2007.
From June 4 to 5, MEP Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing went to Pingwu County and Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province to inspect the post-disaster situation there, instruct the disaster relief efforts, and condole with the cadres and staff in the environmental protection system.
On June 6, MEP released the National Catalogue of Hazardous Wastes (No.1 Order of MEP), which goes to effect as of August 1, 2008.

On the same day, MEP approved two of the national environmental protection standards Dust Collection Project Technical Specification of Cement Industry (HJ 434-2008) and Dedusting Engineering Technical Specification of Iron and Steel Industry (HJ 435-2008), which go to effect as of September 1, 2008.
On June 10, the International Seminar on Sustainable Development and Consumption, which was jointly organized by MEP, Ministry of Finance, UNEP, and European Commission, was held in Beijing. MEP Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing and Zhang Tong, assistant of Minister of Finance, presented at the opening ceremony.
On the same day, seven Ministries under the State Council, including MEP, NDRC and Ministry of Supervision, distributed the Decision on Honoring the Advanced Groups and Individuals in the Special Campaign to Punish Illegal Pollutant Discharging Enterprises and Safeguard the Public Health, honoring the groups and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to this campaign over the past five years.
On the same day, MEP printed and distributed Opinion on Enhancing the Prevention and Control of Soil Pollution.
On June 11, MEP released the Circular on Defending against and Responding to the Secondary Environmental Disasters in the Flood Season.
On June 13, MEP approved one of the national environmental protection standards, Technical Guidelines for Environmental Protection in Port Project for Check & Acceptance of Completed Construction Project (HJ436-2008), which goes to effect as of August 1, 2008.
On the same day, MEP released the Urgent Circular on Further Intensifying the Environmental Regulation of the Tailings Pond in Earthquake-Stricken Areas.
From June 15-16, China-Germany High-level Forum on "Dialogue in Chongqing-Urban Development and Environmental Protection" was held in Chongqing city. MEP Vice Minister Li Ganjie attended the forum and delivered remarks.
On June 17, MEP released the Circular on Further Enhancing the Environmental Regulation in Earthquake-stricken Areas.
On June 19, MEP printed and distributed the Circular on Releasing National Environment-friendly Projects, choosing ten projects as the national environment-friendly projects, including the newly built Ge'ermu-Lhasa section of Qinghai-Tibetan railway.
On the same day, MEP printed and distributed Circular on Intensifying the Administration of the Archives for the General Survey on Nationwide Pollutant Sources.
On the same day, in order to instruct local areas to do a good job in environmental monitoring during the flood season, MEP issued the Circular on Defending against Strong Storms and Enhancing the Environmental Monitoring.
On June 20, in order to facilitate the industries and enterprises in the quake-stricken areas to resume production orderly and legally, MEP issued the Technical Guidelines on Environmental Protection for Industries and Enterprises Resuming Production in Earthquake-stricken Area (temporary).
From June 20 to 22, Chen Zhili, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, led the inspection group of the Standing Committee on Enforcement of Environmental Impact Assessment Law to go to Shanghai for inspections. MEP Vice Minister Pan Yue accompanied her for the inspection.
On June 23, in order to build the capacity on regulation of solid wastes, establish the national and provincial level systems for management of solid wastes and improve them, MEP printed and distributed Standards for Construction of National and Provincial Level Centers for Solid Waste Management.
On the same day, in order to further urge local areas to intensify the environmental regulation of pollution caused by livestock and poultry breeding, protect and improve the rural environment, MEP issued the Circular on the Special Inspection on Law Enforcement in Scaled Livestock and Poultry Breeding Farms.
On June 24, MEP approved another three national environmental protection standards including Technical Specification for On-board Diagnostic (OBD) System of Compression Ignition and Gas Fuelled Positive Ignition Engines of Vehicles, which go to effect as of July 1, 2008.
On the same day, MEP printed and distributed the amendment plan for one of the national pollutant discharge standards, Limits and Measurement Methods for Exhaust Pollutants from Compression Ignition and Gas Fuelled Positive Ignition Engines of Vehicles (III, IV, V) (GB 17691-2005).
From June 25-26, the 3rd meeting of the Environmental Protection Subcommittee under the Regular China-Russia Prime Ministers' Meeting was held in Moscow. Zhou Shengxian, Chinese Co-chair of the Subcommittee and MEP Minister, and Mr. Trutnev, Russian Co-chair and Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology led their delegations to the meeting, after which, Mr. Zhou and Mr. Trutnev signed on the Summary Document of the 3rd meeting.
On June 25, MEP Vice Minister Li Ganjie met in Beijing with Larry W. Walther, Director of U.S. Trade and Development Agency and his retinue. Both sides exchanged views on intensifying environmental protection.
On the same day, MEP printed and distributed 11 national pollutant discharge standards including Discharge Standard of Water Pollutants for Pulp and Paper Industry, which go to effect as of August 1, 2008.
On June 26, 2008 China International Environmental Protection Exhibition, jointly organized by MEP and Dalian municipal government, was held in Dalian city. MEP Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing and Dalian mayor Xia Deren attended the opening ceremony.
On the same day, MEP issued the Circular on Doing a Better Job in Preventing and Controlling Water Pollution in Yangtze River Basins during the Flood Season.
On June 30, MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian met in Beijing with Mr. Solheim, Norwegian Minister of Environment and Development, and his retinue. Both sides exchanged views on environmental issues of common concern and signed a memorandum of understanding on bilateral environmental cooperation.
On the same day, the meeting to mobilize the supervision on the guarantee of environmental quality during Beijing Olympic Games was held in Beijing. MEP Vice Minister Zhang Lijun attended the meeting and delivered remarks.
