BEIJING, CENEWS-Vice Minister Zhao Yingmin met with Ayumi Konishi, Director General of East Asia Department, the Asian Development Bank in Beijing on Sept. 23. The two sides exchanged views on the cooperation between MEP and ADB and other issues of common concern.
Zhao began by extending welcome on behalf of the Ministry to the delegation headed by Konishi. China and ADB have enjoyed 30 years’ cooperation and the bilateral cooperation in the environment sector has been promoted and deepened, said he. The ADB has offered technical assistance to China which has played an active role in promoting the environmental protection in China, and he appreciated and extended gratitude for it.
China has made significant progress in environmental protection, said Zhao. However, the country still faces considerable stress and challenges in the urbanization process, and China hopes to have ADB’s support, as always. He hoped that the two sides enable the bilateral cooperation to be more pragmatic and deeper under the framework of the memorandum of understanding. First of all, he hoped that the ADB may make better plans for its ecological conservation projects in China, and that related projects are able to provide effective support for such key projects as the synergic development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area, the ecological conservation of Yangtze Economic Belt, and the development of green “Belt and Road”. Second, he hoped that ADB further strengthen the allocation of resources in the environment sector, offer greater support to the technical assistant projects in this sector, especially in areas of pollution permit system and control of VOCs, and introduce the international experience and enable China’s outputs and experience to go global. Third, he hoped to deepen the staff exchange mechanism, and make the existing staff exchange pattern between MEP and ADB a long-term mechanism.
Konishi extended gratitude for the meeting with Zhao, and said ADB is ready to actively engage in communications with Chinese side in the environment sector, further deepen bilateral ties under the framework of the MOU signed by both parties, and take the bilateral cooperation to a new phase.
