BEIJING, CENEWS-Zhao Yingmin, MEP Vice Minister and Secretary General of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) met with the following Council members and the delegates of the Council partners in Beijing on the sidelines of the 2016 annual general meeting-Niels Wikman, Secretary of State for Energy and Policy Coordination Department under the Swedish Prime Minister’s Office; Jos Delbeke, EU Director General for Climate Action; Stephen P. Groff, ADB Vice President; Bill, former Australian Secretary of Department of the Environment and Heritage; and Andrew Steer, President of World Resources Institute.
At the meeting, Zhao began by extending welcome on behalf of MEP and CCICED to the Council members and delegates for their presence at the 2016 annual general meeting and expressed gratitude for their long-term collaboration and support.
The Chinese Government has always attached great importance to the environmental protection effort and go all out to address the conflict between economic development and environmental protection, said Zhao. Recently, China released the “13th Five-Year Plan for Eco-environmental Protection”, which proposed to center on the improvement of environmental quality and introduce the toughest environmental protection institutions. China hopes to work with the delegates of the world countries, integrate resources and mobilize forces, put forward more constructive and feasible policy recommendations and support measures pursuant to China’s major development strategies, and collectively advance China’s green development.
We have gradually clarified the objectives, tasks, organization structure, and operation mechanism of the sixth phase of CCICED, said Zhao. Therefore, the Council in its new phase will maintain its stance as a high-profile international policy consultation agency, be devoted to establishing an international think tank on environment and development, carry out interdisciplinary and cross-sector policy studies, and highlight its three core functions of producing ideas, recommendations, and influence. The Council will not only come up with policy recommendations on China’s practical problems on environment and development, but also advance the interactions and cooperation between China and the world.
The delegates of other countries spoke highly of the achievements made by the Chinese Government in the environment field, and gave full recognition to the efforts and achievements made by the Council in recent years. They said the remarks of Zhang Gaoli, Vice Premier of the State Council and Chairman of the CCICED, were very inspiring, and they believed that the Council would develop into a platform for the two-way communications between China and the world in the field of environment and development, a platform for the global action on promoting ecological progress, and a platform for better innovations of the global governance system. They are ready to deepen the communications and collaboration with China and make concerted efforts for the green development of China and the world as a whole.
