The annual meeting of China-France Steering Committee on Nuclear Safety Cooperation was held in Paris, France on Apr. 4. MEP Vice Minister and NNSA Administrator Liu Hua and Pierre-Franck Chevet, President of Nuclear Safety Authority, co-chaired the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the inter-session bilateral activities as well as the positive results and identified the priorities for future cooperation.
First of all, Liu introduced China’s nuclear safety regulation framework, the general safety status of China’s nuclear industry, the major progresses made in nuclear safety regulation and the improvements since the Fukushima Nuclear Accident, and the implementation of the Vienna Declaration on Nuclear Safety.
Chevet introduced the changes in nuclear energy development policies, the endeavors in long-term storage of highly radioactive wastes, and the challenges in nuclear safety regulation in France. Moreover, the technicians of the two sides exchanged views on the progresses and major technical issues of the ongoing EPR nuclear power programs, the public communications, and the exchanges of the regulators.
The meeting of China-France Steering Committee on Nuclear Safety Cooperation is an annual event held by the regulatory authorities of China and France on a rotating basis.
