Vice Minister Li Ganjie Required Placing Soil Environmental Protection at a More Important Position
The Third High-level Training Course on Soil Environment Management under China--Netherlands Environmental Protection Cooperation Program was held in Beijing on November 10, 2010. MEP Vice Minister Li Ganjie addressed at the opening ceremony. He stressed that we should grasp the important period of strategic opportunity during the "12th Five-Year Plan" and put soil environmental protection work at a more important position.
Vice Minister Li Ganjie pointed out that the Chinese Government attaches great importance to the protection of soil environment. The report of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 17th National Congress of CPC requires that "Focusing on addressing striking environmental problems such as safety of drinking water air and soil pollution that threaten public health, we should strengthen comprehensive pollution control and significantly improve environmental quality". This fully demonstrates that the Chinese Government has taken the protection of soil environment and prevention and control of soil pollution as an important agenda of our country.
Vice Minister Li said, the "12th Five-Year Plan" period will be an important period of strategic opportunities for addressing major soil environment problems and facilitating key breakthrough in soil environmental protection work. With high attention, we must place soil environmental protection work to more important position and seek practical outcomes. Our focus is strengthening soil environmental protection in the following four areas: First, developing national "12th Five-Year Plan" for soil environmental protection; second, enhancing the development of relevant laws, regulations and standards; third, strengthen capacity building in supervision; fourth, organizing and conducting demonstration work on remedy of soil pollution.
Finally, Vice Minister Li Ganjie hoped that the Chinese and Dutch counterparts seriously summarize their successful cooperation experience and further expand the extent, depth and level of bilateral cooperation.
Mr. Hans Van Der Vlist, Vice Minister of Housing, Spatial Planning of the Netherlands attended the opening ceremony. Officials or experts of the division of ecology (rural areas) of environmental protection bureau of each province, autonomous region, municipality directly under the State Council, city with its mayor at Vice Governor level and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps as well as the experts of relevant research institutes attended the training.
