Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group Li Ganjie met with Madam Karolina Skog, Swedish Minister for the Environment, in Beijing on Monday. The two sides reviewed the long-term good relations and exchanged views on further deepening the bilateral cooperation in the environment field.
Li began by extending welcome on behalf of his Ministry to the delegation headed by Karolina Skog and then briefly introduced the ongoing environmental protection efforts in China. In recent years, the Chinese Government has put the development of ecological civilization on a more important and strategic position, put forward the innovation-driven, coordinated, green, opening, and sharing-based development concepts, put in place the 13th Five-Year Plan for National Ecological and Environmental Protection, and the action plans targeting air, water, and soil pollution, and opened up new prospects for the ecological and environmental protection, as a result of which the environmental quality has turned better, said Li.
Li noted that China and Sweden have launched amicable and pragmatic cooperation in the environment field for a long period of time, which has raised the high attention of the State leaders of the two countries. He hoped that the two sides may continue to enhance communications, discuss the concepts and practices in promoting green consumption, and substantially advance economic and social development in resource-saving and environment-friendly ways. The environmental industries in China occupy a large market share, and he invited the Swedish environmental businesses to bring outstanding environmental management experience and useful and applicable environmental technologies and equipment to come and compete with the Chinese businesses, so as to fuel green development and realize win-win outcomes through cooperation of the environmental industries.
Moreover, Li stressed that China Council for International Cooperation on the Environment and Development, of which Sweden is a key partner, serves as a major platform for promoting international communications and cooperation in the environment field. He hoped the two partners may continue with the bilateral environmental cooperation, and step up communications on the cooperation topics under the framework of the Council, which will help with the environmental protection of the two countries.
Madam Karolina Skog appreciated China’s efforts to work as a responsible country in the environment field, and hoped the two sides may further enhance the cooperation on environmental policies, science and technology, and green innovation, play a positive role in the international environmental protection affairs, facilitate the implementation of the international environmental conventions, and catalyze the extensive communications and cooperation among the governments, scientific research institutions, and industries of the two countries.
