Li Ganjie goes on an inspection tour to China National Environmental Monitoring Center

Li Ganjie stressed the importance to adhere to the problem-oriented principle, raise the awareness, be creative in the way of thinking, strive to build a “national team” for environmental monitoring, and ensure the data are “authentic, accurate, and complete”.

Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group Li Ganjie went on an inspection tour to China National Environmental Monitoring Center (CNEMC) on Jun. 9. Li stressed the importance to adhere to the problem-oriented principle, raise the awareness, be creative in the way of thinking, strive to build a “national team” for environmental monitoring, and ensure the data are “authentic, accurate, and complete”.

At the CNEMC, Li observed the presentations of the monitoring vans, drones, and other environmental monitoring equipment, interacted with the monitoring technicians, and required making full use of the modern environmental monitoring technologies and tools, and providing more valid monitoring data as support to the air pollution control effort. At the Environmental Monitoring Instruments Quality Inspection and Testing Center and the Applicability Testing Platform, and National Air Monitoring Network Particulate Matter Weighing Center, Li required ensuring the accuracy of the data, conducting random checks at any time, and overseeing the data at the sources. At the Air Quality Early Warning and Forecast Center, Li highlighted the importance to issue early warnings on and forecast the air quality very well and demanded further improve the data accuracy and delicacy management levels. Moreover, Li heard the progress report on “guarding blue skies” and the work report of the CNEMC.

Li said that since the 18th National Congress of the CPC was held, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core has put the ecological development and environmental protection on a more important and strategic position, and devised and launched a series of pioneering and long-term initiatives, pointing a direction for better environmental management. The environmental protection departments have earnestly implemented the decisions and deployments of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, established a new environmental management pattern which focuses on environmental improvement, made full-throttled efforts to combat air, water, and soil pollution, continued with the central government environmental inspection, urged the Party committee and the government to be equally responsible for environmental protection and implemented the “one position with dual responsibilities” system, accelerated the change from focusing on inspections over enterprises to giving equal attention to inspections over both the enterprises and the governments, and enabled the environmental protection to achieve notable results.

Li noted that environmental monitoring as the pillar of the environmental management provides invaluable technical support for such management. He gave full recognition to the work of the CNEMC and hoped that it would raise awareness, shoulder the heavy burden, observe the occupational ethics and bottom lines for environmental monitoring, and make sure the monitoring data are authentic, accurate and complete. Also, he hoped that CNEMC can build a “national team” for environmental monitoring, a team that has strong capacity and high political awareness to withstand the test of challenging, risky, heavy, and urgent tasks at any time.

Li also proposed specific requirements for the CNEMC to give priority to major tasks.

Vice Minister Zhai Qing was also on the inspection tour.
