On Oct. 31, Minister Li Ganjie met in Beijing with Henry Paulson, Chairman of the Paulson Foundation. The two sides had talks on furthering the cooperation in the environment field.
Li began by extending welcome on behalf of his Ministry to the delegation headed by Paulson and gave a brief introduction to the latest developments in China’s environmental protection arena. Over the past five years since the 18th National Congress, the Chinese Government has unswervingly promoted the building of an ecological civilization, as a result of which the ecological and environmental awareness and practices have undergone historic, transformative, and holistic changes, and important strides have been made in the building of beautiful China, commented Li.
Li also talked about the 19th National Congress that just concluded and comes up with new ideas, requirements, objectives, and plans for building ecological civilization and protecting the ecological environment. At the report to the Congress, Xi Jinping elaborated on the principle of “harmonious coexistence of man and nature” and highlighted the importance to create more material, ideological and cultural wealth to meet the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life, and provide more quality and eco-friendly products to meet the people’s ever-growing needs for a beautiful ecological environment. The Congress set forth the objectives and made plans for the ecological conservation by 2020, by 2035, and by the middle of this century. With regard to the international cooperation, the Congress called upon the peoples of the world countries to work together to build a shared community and a clean and beautiful world, and proposed to jointly tackle climate change and protect the homeland planet.
China and Paulson Foundation have conducted fruitful cooperation in the areas of air pollution control, environmental risk assessment of outbound investments, establishment of national park system, and wetland protection, said Li. He hoped that the two sides unfold more and deeper cooperation in the areas of establishing a market-oriented, diversified eco-compensation mechanism, and developing green financial framework and clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy framework, and that Paulson Foundation may provide more cutting-edge international concepts, technologies and talents for China’s building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and of a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful.
Paulson highly recognized China’s achievements in environmental protection. He reiterated his willingness to deepen bilateral ties in the environment sector and hoped he can help advance China’s environmental protection progress, and share their good experience with China, and China’s advanced experience with other countries.
