On Sept. 6, Li Ganjie met with Zeev Elkin, Israeli Minister of Environmental Protection, in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on deepening bilateral cooperation in the environment field and other issues of common concern.
Li began by greeting the delegation headed by Zeev Elkin, on behalf of Ministry of Environmental Protection, and then gave a brief description of the ongoing environmental protection efforts in China. He said, the Chinese Government has unswervingly promoted ecological progress in recent years, introduced the air, water, and soil pollution control action plans, systematically deepened the reforms and innovation of the environmental protection institutions and mechanisms, and made decisive strides towards a beautiful country. However, China still faces considerably daunting challenges in environment dimension. The ecological and environmental quality still falls short of the people’s expectations and has become one of the prominent weak points in completing the building of a moderately prosperous society.
China highly values the environmental cooperation with Israel, and the cooperation between the governments and the industries of the two countries has been very fruitful over the past few years, added Li. As a country known for creativity, Israel boasts cutting-edge environmental management concepts and environmental technologies. He hoped that the two sides could continue to strengthen the policy communications and dialogues, deepen the technological innovation and cooperation, and achieve mutual benefits and win-win outcomes.
Li emphasized that the Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed to establish the Belt and Road International Alliance for Green Development, at this year’s Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. China welcomes Israeli membership in the alliance and together promote the development of green belt and road, explore the cooperation with the third countries, and enhance the ecological and environmental governance capacity and level of the belt and road countries.
Zeev Elkin responded that the friendship between China and Israel is time-honored and that the bilateral environmental cooperation especially in the innovation front is of great significance to the Israeli side. Israel cherishes the bilateral ties in the environment sector and appreciates China’s endeavors and achievements in environmental development. He hoped that the two sides further deepen bilateral cooperation in the environment arena, and facilitate the environmental science and technology innovation and communications, in the way of sharing experience and two-way visits by talents, industries, and scientific research institutions.
After the meeting, the two sides signed the Three-Year Action Plan between China and Israel on Environmental Cooperation (2017-2019).
